NetProFaN is owned by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. It is a collective of professional bodies working in the areas of food safety and nutrition. It is a pro bono self-sustaining model functional at national, state and city levels to adapt and implement activities to address the local needs and issues. . It was launched on 22 March 2019 in New Delhi under the leadership of FSSAI. It supports and expands the outreach of various flagship programmes of the Government on food safety and nutrition. The project was initiated by FSSAI to bring the following Professional Associations who were earlier working in isolation to work together for a healthy future:- Indian Dietetic Association (IDA), - Nutrition Society of India (NSI), - Indian Medical Association (IMA), - Association of Food Technologists and Scientists (AFSTI), - Indian Federation of Culinary Associations (IFCA),- Association of Analytical Chemists, India Chapter (AoAC) and- Indian Public Health Association (IPHA)- Indian Association for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (IAPEN)- Indian Dental Association (IDA)Currently 32 city chapters are functional across 18 States/UTs. Each chapter elects its convener and co-convener. All the chapters are required to coordinate with office of Sate Food Safety Commissioner. The main driving force of this network is the interest of the members for the cause and recognition by FSSAI. A matrix of suggested activities is provided with the point-system for an individual.
